SUSPECTED TRUCK JACKING SUSPECTS CAUGHT RED HANDED

On 2024/03/19, Lyttelton SAPS arrested two suspected truck hi jackers on the R21 freeway.

The arrest came after information was received that a hi jacked truck was on the R21 freeway.
Immediately, SAPS and security resources were despatched to the area.

One of the security service members was able to get eyes on the truck and relayed its location to the other team members.

The suspects were seen taking the Nelmuiphius off ramp, how ever there were multiple units waiting at the escape route.

When the suspects saw the magnitude of the force waiting for them, they stopped the truck and tried to flee into the bushes.

This proved to be futile as the highly trained members executed an integrated tactical take down, thus securing the arrest of both suspects and recovering all the stolen stock and truck.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the suspects were also using a jamming device in an attempt to block the tracking unit.

The suspects will face charges relating to truck jacking, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of a frequency jamming device.

The station commander of Lyttelton SAPS Brig Toohey has welcomed the effort put into arresting the suspects by her crime fighting team and partners. The Brig further stated that this success also comes on the back of many man hours and resources placed on the R21 in an effort to prevent the escalating hi jacking happening on the freeway.
