On 17 February 2026, a coordinated operation between SAPS and E2 security partners resulted in the successful arrest of two suspects linked to theft out of motor vehicle incidents across Gauteng. Members received intelligence regarding a white BMW X1 allegedly used in multiple theft-related crimes throughout the province. Acting swiftly on the information, the vehicle was positively identified travelling on the N1 from Soweto towards Pretoria.
Upon further observation, it was noted that the vehicle was displaying false registration plates. An operational strategy was immediately implemented to monitor and safely intercept the suspects without compromising public safety. The vehicle, occupied by two male suspects, entered Grey Owl Shopping Centre in Centurion. Law enforcement and security teams moved into position and executed a well-coordinated takedown, ensuring there was no opportunity for escape. The operation was carried out efficiently and without incident.
SAPS and the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) processed the scene thoroughly. The suspects were arrested and detained at Olivenhoutbosch Police Station. The vehicle was impounded and transported to the Pretoria West pound for further forensic processing.
The following items were confiscated during the operation:
Additional set of number plates
White BMW X1 used in the commission of crimes
Suspects’ cellular phones
Vehicle breaking implements
Two remote jamming devices
Gloves
Further investigations are currently underway to determine the suspects’ involvement in additional cases across Gauteng. Authorities are working to link the individuals to other reported incidents of theft out of motor vehicles.
This successful operation highlights the importance of intelligence-driven policing and strong collaboration between law enforcement and private security partners. We extend our appreciation to all units involved for their swift response and professionalism.
