A long-sought N4 spiker was finally apprehended late Tuesday night after a victim was robbed at gunpoint on the N4 near Brits.
According to Kobus Grobler of Aequitas, and founder of the N4 emergency spiking WhatsApp groups, the suspect’s vehicle was identified through drone surveillance on the N4 at approximately 21:30. Aequitas quickly responded and located the victim, who had been held at gun- and knifepoint by two assailants.
“The drone spotted two suspects fleeing, and we called for backup. Mmakau police, members of the Anglo American tactical team, Brits Community Policing Forum, and MonitorNet all responded. The suspects were then pursued with the drone’s assistance,” said Grobler.
One of the armed suspects was tracked down and arrested in the bushes near the N4 at De Wildt by police. The second suspect escaped into Mmakau. By Wednesday morning, teams remained at the scene searching for a firearm believed to have been discarded by the fleeing suspect.
“We want to thank all the dedicated individuals who responded and continue working to make the N4 safer,” Grobler added.
