Centurion, South Africa – Four suspects have been arrested following a high-speed pursuit through the streets of Centurion, after allegedly robbing two victims of their mobile phones.
The suspects, travelling in a high-performance Audi sedan fitted with false number plates, were intercepted by law enforcement and private security partners after the robbery was reported. The chase, which reached speeds exceeding 160km/h, placed numerous road users at serious risk.Officers executed advanced tactical manoeuvres to halt the fleeing vehicle, successfully bringing it to a standstill at the intersection of Hertzog Street and Van Ryneveld Avenue.
The arrests were made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Gauteng Traffic Police airwing, the South African Police Service (SAPS) airwing, and private security teams. Two stolen mobile phones were recovered from the suspects, who now face charges of possession of suspected stolen property and reckless driving.
Brigadier M Toohey, Station Commander at Lyttelton SAPS, commended the joint operation, stating: “The excellent work done by all involved has ensured that the criminals were arrested and stolen property was recovered.”
Authorities confirmed that the suspects are expected to be linked to multiple mobile phone snatching incidents in the region, with additional charges likely to follow.
